Cambodia - Kampot/Kep

Kampot, and what to do there

Kampot are a lot of travelers choice, when they already visited Siem Reap, Phnom Penh and Battambang, and choosing it after, the previous 3 are the right choice, cause it'd by no means as interesting as the 3 formers. It is still worth a visit though, especially to see Bokor Mountain National park. The rest is so and so, did like one day at Kep, but again 1 day were sufficient.
Kampot city is strangely, somewhat different from the rest of the country, somehow it kind'a reminds me of Pattaya, in Thailand, lots of old foreign men walking around with young asian women. Also the people there just does not seem quite as friendly as in the rest of Cambodia, maybe it's just my imagination, because i were somewhat disappointed with the place ?

We found a great driver though, who both had Tuk Tuk and Car (Lexus)
Contact him if you go there.

Kampot City

Not much to se in this town, apart from durian square and the markeds.
There's a boat trip, to see fireflies, it's only 5Us$ including 2 drinks, and even though we saw no fireflies, it was a nice trip.

Apart from that, people seemed, not quite so friendly as anywhere else in Cambodia, and around the "evening" spot, with restaurants, there were a lot of old foreign men with younger Khmer women.

we did find a few good places to eat there though, and we found a great driver, with both a tuk tuk and a car, so we booked him for all the days we were there.

Kep City
City of Crabs

Kep were founded as a seaside retreat for the French elite in 1908I, today its a tourist retreat, with seafood, sunsets and hikes.

The seaside is filled with seafood restaurants, mainly serving Crab of different styles, in general, it's pretty good, but on the more expensive end for cambodia.

It's a nice walk, along the seaside, from there to the crab statue. Scenic and with a lot of photo opportunities, especially for people photographers

Around Kampot Province

There's a lot of sights in the surroundings of Kampot, some you need to be lucky to see,
others are just there.
One of these are the "Secret lake" The name, the secret, has nothing to do with location, but everything to do, which lie beneath the surface! The story is, that Pol Pot send thousand of men to dig it, and they are all, more or less, buried on the bottom of the lake.
The mountain you see beside the lake, is not natural either, it's all the dirt digged up, when making the lake.
Another place is the muslim fishing village, quite nice, even though we got caught in a blizzard rain, that came out of nothing.
